14:00 Brighton Today’s first selection comes in the maiden fillies stakes. Of the eight runners due to go to post, three are unraced, unknown quantities. Of these first timers it is Spinnaka who makes the most appeal. Sired by the excellent Invincible Spirit, she was a 160,000 guineas purchase and is related to a 2yo debutant winner in Tanqeya. Trainer Luca Cumani does not send many to Brighton but when he does it is worth taking note – with an excellent 38% strike rate here over the past 5 seasons. Adam Kirby, who also boasts an impressive record by the seaside, take the reins and it could be well worth monitoring any market support early doors. My selection however, comes in the form of a filly with racecourse experience. Amelia Dream is speedily bred with the very useful Rossa Corsa as a half brother. She ran with credit on her debut at Newbury just over a week ago and looks set to build on that. That day she finished 5th of 15, 4 lengths behind winner Partitia, who has since followed up in a more valuable contest at Chester this past weekend. Her trainer Mick Channon had a winner here on Sunday and at current odds of 13/8, I feel Amelia Dream is ready to notch up a quick brace for the former footballer. Amelia Dream (WIN)

15:00 Brighton Will attempt to speculate to accumulate with my next selection. This 7 runner nursery handicap looks set to be fought out by 3 main protagonists – Dixie’s Double, Bobby Vee and Goodwood Crusader – at least that’s what the early prices indicate. However, I feel there could be a good deal of value in the outsider of the field, Katrine. This filly burst on the scene winning first time out in May when trained by Mark Johnston. So positive was that first impression, her next stop was a shot at the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot. Unfortunately for connections of Katrine, that’s when things took a turn for the worse. Well beaten in the Queen Mary and subsequently not beating a horse home in her next two outings, she is now rated 70. In a bid to revive her fortunes she has now changed stables and is under the guidance of William Knight. I am hoping the change of scenery along with the application of a hood may unlock some of the talent that is lurking beneath. If so, a 0-70 nursery handicap is surely well within her compass. Given current odds of 14/1, I will make an each play here, even though a field of 7 means we are going for 2 places only. Katrine (E/W)

16:00 Brighton My final selection is a lot less adventurous at odds of evens but I find it difficult to envision a scenario whereby Golden Reign gets beat. Golden Reign is bred in the purple being a half sister to superstar Golden Horn. Although her talents seem to be nowhere near the dizzying heights of her half brother, she looks more than well equipped to deal with her 3 opponents today – two of which began their career under national hunt rules and all of who are making their flat debuts. The form of her four starts to date may not be awe inspiring but it is solid enough and the drop back in trip to 1m 2f looks sure to suit. Given her regal breeding, connections will be absolutely desperate to get a win to her name before packing her off to be covered at stud and they seem to have found her a penalty kick of an opportunity to do just that.
