Marquis Of Carabas is progressing well and was only just denied by a neck on his most recent start at Uttoxeter. That run came following a 145 day lay off so he is fully entitled to come on for the run. This race is sponsored by David Dennis himself so he would love nothing more than to train the winner of it. Brian Hughes is an excellent jockey booking by the handler and the duo may well have been found an ideal opportunity to shed that maiden tag.

Beggars Cross carries a penalty this afternoon given the manner of his easy victory at this track last time out. Will Kennedy keeps the ride on this son of Presenting and if handling this much better ground, they have to rate as serious contenders. He does stay further than this so stamina is unlikely to be an issue and they look the biggest dangers. Be Daring ought to appreciate this quicker surface on what will be his third run for Paul Nicholls. Nick Schofield takes the reins and they too have place prospects.  Midnight Cowboy is more exposed than many and may find that his future lies in handicaps.

Marquis Of Carabas certainly looks as though a race of this nature would be well within his scope and he can go onto bigger and better hangs after today.

Monkhouse looks to be improving with each run and given that he remains so unexposed, it would not be the biggest of surprises if he were to improve past some of these. His last run at Southwell came following a three month break and he is fully entitled to come on for it. Richie McClernon replaces Tom Bellamy in the plate and that could well bring about yet more improvement from this son of Scorpion.

McCabe Creek has managed to make the frame in two starts since, including once over this course and distance since winning at Doncaster back in January. He has proven to be a model of consistency and he should give anothegood account of himself yet again. He certainly spearheads the dangers. Kublai is more exposed than most but represents a top yard in Philip Hobbs. Richard Johnson rides and despite top weight and a two month absence they still have place prospects in a wide open race.

Kim Bailey does really well with the ammunition he has at his disposal. He had a few entries for this race earlier in the week so it is of note that he relies solely upon Monkhouse today. There looks to be any amount of improve my to come from the six year old and he looks sure to go well.

MONKHOUSE (WIN)

Purple N Gold looked to be coming back into form with a decent effort at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago when chasing home Ruben Cotter. He certainly knows how to win races and now that he receives weight from all of his rivals this afternoon, he looks to be in with a solid chance. Tom Scudamore has partnered him to three of those previous successes and today he replaces David Noonan in the saddle. The combination look to have lots in their favour and they can go close.

Parsnip Pete comes here a fresh horse and with Tom George in flying form he clearly commands respect. He has been given a real chance by the handicapper and if back to his best he could well prove a thorn in the side of the selection. Thomas Crapper is proven at this level and he is proven over further than this. He was no match for Junction Fourteen at Sandown last time and is possibly in the grip of the handicapper. Dunraven Storm ought to find life at this grade a lot easier that his most recent outing at Cheltenham. With the cobwebs now fully cleared he too commands respect and has each way possibilities.

David Pipe has his string in excellent form and he and Tom Scudamore have a near twenty percent strike rate when combining. This slight step back in trip should suit Purple N Gold and he is taken to remain competitive.
