PADDOCKS PATENT (SUNDAY)

15:10 Leopardstown

Stormfly arrives here as the early favourite and with two impressive wins under her belt already this season it is easy to see why she will be popular with punters. She has course form having won the 1000 Guineas Trial by over three lengths here last month and will be at home on the expected soft ground. The step up to a mile shouldn’t cause any problems either based on how well she has finished her last two races over seven furlongs and in truth she really should be winning today but at the expected short odds I am happy to take a chance on a bigger priced each-way option.

Off Limits is the only course and distance winner in the field having won a maiden here in October. Her seasonal reappearance last month saw her beaten two lengths in to third but both first and second from that race have gone on to win since so the form is holding up well.

Stellar Glow and Kissed By Angels are others who arrive on the back of promising runs last time out and need to be respected.

Success Days beat Off Limits (our selection in the 15:10) before getting the better of Derby hopeful John F Kennedy last month and arrives here looking to complete his hat-trick. The manner of his course and distance win over JFK suggests that he could be tough to beat if he gets chance to lead from the front and the forecast soft ground remains true.

The most likely danger looks to be Summaya who, although could only manage fourth last time out, beat recent Chester Vase winner Hans Holbein by six lengths on his penultimate run. That win was on heavy ground but any further rain would likely increase her chances even further.

The A P O’Brien trained Order Of St George is another to consider. He has only managed one win from five but has also finished a close second to Parish Boy on two occasions so obviously has some ability, although will  probably be fighting for minor honours again here.

Success Days (WIN)

We remain at Leopardstown for our final selection of the day, in the hope that Bobby Jean can make it three wins from her last four runs. She has been raised 7lbs for her win at The Curragh last week but was always in command and looked like there was more to give if needed.

Beau Satchel has had a couple of runs on the all-weather at Dundalk before a decent run in second over course and distance last month. The step back from a mile to seven furlongs shouldn’t pose a problem as he won twice over this trip previously, although he does have an extra 3lbs to carry today.

Unsinkable could only manage fourth in the same race where Beau Satchel finished second last month and is yet to hit top gear after two runs this season. However he signed off last season with a win over track and trip on soft ground and would be a danger to all if he could re-capture that form.

Bobby Jean (E/W if 5/1+)
