The Godolphin outfit look to have started the season in cracking form and yesterday’s win by ‘Bow and Arrow’ was hugely impressive. The stable run ‘Subcontinent’ over 1m2f here at the Yorkshire track and the Town Moor could see another win. The form of this son of Dubawi is decent with his win last time out admittedly as facile as it gets on Tapeta over at Wolverhampton. James Doyle gets the ride this time after Shane Gray and Tom Marquand were on board the last twice.
There are notable dangers in the race and ‘Aabir’ heads the list in this contest. One appearance at Wolverhampton last year was a very pleasing effort and a second place over at Beverley has somewhat franked that form. The quicker ground may suit and the profile of the horse is very progressive.
Indeed all horses in the race have decent pedigrees and are expected to progress beyond this contest. It is a wide open race but the market could be a big indicator. ‘Subcontinent’ has come for some money and could be the one to side with
‘Edgar Balthazar’ is a horse that we have recommended in our 60 flat horses to follow book and one that looks to have huge potential and particularly in this company. The horse ran a cracker on quicker ground up at Hamilton but then bottomed out a touch the last day on ground that may not have suited. The trip is of no concern and it would be remiss to ignore him with Tom Eaves doing the steering.
Godolphin have a nice type in the race with ‘Wanting’ up 3lbs for recent performances including two wins and a second place. She has a little bit to prove on this surface but has the profile to improve beyond here.
‘Gold Flash’ has one run to her name and would be an obvious danger had the run come on this ground. The win was on polytrack and there is always somewhat of a concern about the transfer after one run. Yet the horse has obvious potential and Richard Kingscote probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves, especially given the calmness and jockeyship he shows on his feature runner ‘Brown Panther’
Edgar Balthazar (E/W)
We complete our hat-trick of horses running on Town Moor with another selection from the book. Signore Piccolo is sure to run a cracker here and will enjoy conditions underfoot. The horse won well over at Ripon on a course that is noted for its undulations midway through the sprint track. David O’Meara is in cracking form already and the services of Josh Doyle could be key to getting this one home again on a much easier track to ride.
There are also some nice, bigger priced options in this 5f contest and of these ‘Angelito’ is now on an interesting mark. The natural concern is that the horse hasn’t won since 2012 but has appeared in some good races since then and may just be an each way squeak at 12/1. Of interest too are ‘Royal Bajan’ who may wish to front run and could get away if he has his own way. Yet this is tempered by the fact that some of these may fancy taking him on for that lead. ‘Sir Billy Wright’ may also be of interest as he often hits the frame
