PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

AP and Rebecca Curtis are teaming up for a number of rides at the Welsh track and this could be their best runner of the day. A scorer over in Ireland Beast of Burden comes here with some good form to his name and credible past jockey bookings in Davy Russell and Paul Carberry having ridden before. On that form the horse should bolt up. The price may be a touch prohibitive and there could be a touch of odds on here about it. Yet I cannot see any real dangers to this (famous last words) and let’s hope to get the day off to a cracking start.
BEAST OF BURDEN (WIN)
The next selection for Friday comes from class 4 handicap hurdle which is sure to throw out a few of these if the forecast rain sticks around. The horse that looks most suited if the ground turns heavy is the top weight as he is a course and distance winner. Yet that form doesn’t correlate with his rise in the weights by the handicapper. The one that takes the eye is a scorer at Newcastle back in December: Scimon Templar. The horse negotiated the long Newcastle run in well and held on gamely, eventually securing that victory by 3L and could be progressive enough to have a shout in this. The horse is consistent and often makes the frame and with a return to hurdles being a positive as well as the excellent Brian Harding taking the reins we could at least keep our cash with a place. The jockey has a 14% win success rate this season which is not bad going for a jockey of that ilk.

We head to Wales for our final selection of the day and a horse that is a course and distance winner in this class 3 handicap. I would suggest that Double Double will be too good for these and after an excellent win at this track and a decent enough spin around Cheltenham the chances of another good run are fairly big. The Twiston-Davies family run a nice one here in Speed Master and that could be the big danger to the selection but the other tipping point is that man of the moment Sean Bowen is also on the horse. He’s riding for his dad and with a valuable 5 pounds taken off I fancy him to get there and land us a bit of New Year cash. I think the price may be skinny, however if the horse is an each way price I think we could be collecting.
